According to the Florida Highway Patrol, three people were seriously injured in a crash that happened on U.S. Highway 331 south of Rock Hill Road. The crash reportedly involved a pickup truck, a van, a semitrailer and a tanker truck.
The driver of the van reportedly passed a long line of vehicles in a no passing zone, and when he tried to return back to southbound lane, he sideswiped a pickup truck. He then veered over into the northbound lane and hit a semitrailer, which jackknifed and went into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a tanker truck that swerved onto the west shoulder to try to avoid getting hit by the semitrailer. The truck accident resulted in three of the drivers being taken to the hospital for serious injuries. The road was closed for approximately five hours following the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol states that charges are pending against the driver of the van. In addition to any criminal charges the man could face, he could also potentially face a civil lawsuit from the other people involved in the accident if they choose to file a claim.
